Re: ISCSI Connection Failure Causing ESXi 5.1 VMs to shutdown

Hi Julien,

The DELL engineer set up the switch for us initially and we haven't altered the storage heartbeat settings since. Also according to this document from DELL - http://en.community.dell.com/dell-groups/dtcmedia/m/mediagallery/19997606/download.aspx storage heartbeat should use VMkernel.

Regarding the paths, an EQL PS4100 array only had one active controller at any time which means only 2 paths are available, unless I'm missing something there.

We have 1:1 port bindings for vmk2/3 for the iSCSI VMkernel ports.

We have 2 DELL Powerconnect 6224 physical switches that are stacked using a stacking cable and act as one switch when stacked this way. The switches were also set up by a DELL engineer. Here is a summary of the settings that he gave us. Looks like portfast is enabled:

• Verified product cabling
• Firmware Update (2 switches)
• Configured Stack between  switches
• Created user: admin
• Enabled flow control
• Enabled Jumbo Frames
• Created VLAN for iSCSI
• Disabled unicast storm control
